Christmas Eve dinners were delivered to Plast scouts on the front lines! This enormous task could not have been completed without your financial support.
Because of your help, volunteers with Plast Kyiv were able to collect, sort, and pack boxes at their warehouse. Others around Ukraine also contributed by providing dried borshch and embroidering scarves with the Plast lelijka. Finally, a network of Plast volunteers and contacts located the platoons of our scout defenders and delivered the packages. Enough items were purchased and donated that the Christmas Eve deliveries were able to be shared with other soldiers!
Plast Ukrainian Scouting was established in Ukraine in 1911, during a time of uncertainty and war. Since then, each Plast scout has recited the Plast Oath: “…under the thunder of cannons and through troubled times…” we will help “our people become resilient and free.” The t-shirts delivered to the frontline Scouts have printed “не зломимо своїх присях” [we will not break our pledge], acknowledging that each defender is bravely upkeeping the Plast Oath.
January 2023:
Thank you for helping all 530 frontline scouts celebrate Christmas! We have collected $30,500 across Facebook, PayPal, and check donations so that each scout serving on the front lines could enjoy a small Christmas Eve dinner.
A special thanks to two of our largest donors for their contributions: the CYM Hartford’s Ukraine Humanitarian Aid Fund and the Ukrainian Culture Center UCC in LA. Whether you donated one meal or a hundred, we couldn’t have reached our goal without you.
December 2022:
Over two thousand Plast Scouts are defending Ukraine and its freedom. 530 of them are serving on the front lines.
Let’s thank them for their sacrifice. For $55, scouts in Ukraine will deliver to these brave defenders a quick-cook variation of a traditional Ukrainian Christmas Eve Dinner, one of the most important holiday customs in Ukraine.
Join Plast USA and Plast Ukraine in reminding them that they are in our hearts.
